Multi-Missing Stones Repair for an Invisible Setting Ring

Welcome back to another Before & After blog spotlight! Whenever we receive an invisible setting ring to repair, we get excited to spotlight it to show you all. If you’ve read about some of our other invisible setting restorations, you’d already know why these repairs are so special.

This beautiful 14kt yellow gold invisibly set diamond ring was sent over to us with an issue as clear as day: the stones in the setting fell out and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, the owner of the ring did not have the missing stones that fell out, but our Professional Stone Sourcing team was able to find the perfect replacements.

For this diamond ring repair, we had to:

  • Perform our standard and free professional evaluation after noting the repair requests of the customer
    • As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
  • Source out new diamond gemstones
  • Properly groove each gemstone to perfectly fit its setting
  • Set the diamonds in the invisible setting, making sure all of the other stones are tightly secure as well
  • Professionally clean and polish the ring

And voilà! This invisible set diamond ring was restored back to its pristine condition, with no issues along the restoration process.

Why Invisible Settings Require Expert Skill

The Invisible Setting, also known as the invisible set gemstone technique, is a centuries-old French innovation that continues to captivate jewelry lovers with its seamless beauty. This method involves placing gemstones—typically square or princess-cut—side-by-side without any visible metal between them. The result is a smooth, uninterrupted expanse of sparkle that gives the illusion of a much larger gemstone surface. By hiding the metal framework beneath the stones, the Invisible Setting creates an elegant and highly coveted aesthetic that highlights the brilliance of each stone.

Crafting and restoring this type of setting is no simple task—it requires the refined skill of a master jeweler and significantly more labor than other setting styles. Because of the complexity involved, the Invisible Setting remains a rare and prestigious choice in jewelry design. At My Jewelry Repair, our team is proud to specialize in this technique, upholding its original craftsmanship while delivering dazzling results.

The Problem with the Glue Method in Jewelry — and Why It Has No Place in Our Craft

In contrast to the precise craftsmanship of the traditional Invisible Setting, some jewelers lacking the necessary expertise turn to an inferior alternative: the glue method. This shortcut involves bonding stones directly to one another with adhesive, rather than properly setting them within a hidden metal framework. While this may mimic the look of an Invisible Setting at first glance, the structural integrity is severely compromised. Over time, the glue can weaken, resulting in loose or fallen stones and diminished durability.

At My Jewelry Repair, we do not and will never use the glue method. Our commitment to quality means preserving the art of true invisible settings—ensuring each stone is securely held in place through proper techniques, not temporary fixes. We believe your jewelry deserves the highest level of craftsmanship, especially when it comes to such a refined and visually striking setting.
