A Wedding Ring Set Diamond Replacement

Welcome back to another Before & After blog spotlight! Whether you’re joining us for the first time or you’re a loyal returning reader, we’re grateful to have you here.

This 14kt white gold wedding ring set was sent to us for a repair with the customer saying, “My wife’s engagement ring diamond fell out, and I’d like to find a replacement.” The customer also noted that they weren’t too concerned about the caliber of the diamond, whether it be real or lab-grown, as they wanted to keep the repair under a specific budget. Once we gave a quote with options for the diamond, the customer requested to have a higher caliber of lab-grown diamond, which we also had no problem fulfilling.

When it comes to your repair, we’ll always try to find the best option to provide your cherished pieces, even if you change your mind after receiving your repair quote. We’ll always be there for you to make your piece look how you want it, just as we did with the owner of this ring!

For this wedding diamond ring set repair, we had to:

  • Perform our standard and free professional evaluation after noting the repair requests of the customer
    • As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
    • Our team assessed that due to the age and condition of this timepiece, spare part availability and water resistance couldn’t be guaranteed
  • Source out the lab-grown diamond of the owner’s desired caliber
  • Solder on a new head for the engagement ring’s setting
  • Set the new diamond in the ring’s new setting, making sure the prongs were secure
  • Provide both the wedding band and engagement ring our professional clean and polish with rhodium finish

And voilà! This white gold wedding ring set was restored back to the beautiful condition that it was in on the day they said, “I do!”

Our in-house Master Jewelers can promptly diagnose and repair any of your rings similar to this one so you can wear it again where it belongs – on your finger! What is White Gold and Why Does it Need Rhodium Plating?

Did you know that the brilliant white color of white gold jewelry isn’t from the gold itself, but from a thin layer of rhodium plating? This essential process gives white gold its stunning, mirror-like finish.

Gold is naturally yellow, while white gold is an alloy created by mixing gold with other metals such as nickel and palladium. Rhodium is a metal that is perfect for jewelry plating to enhance the sheen with a beautiful silvery-white color and provide a layer against scratches. Rhodium is also recognized as the most expensive precious metal in the world, adding a touch of luxury to its practical applications.

After cleaning and polishing white gold jewelry here at My Jewelry Repair, we’ll always finish the process with rhodium plating, leaving your pieces to stand out with a brighter, whiter appearance. If you’re interested in learning more about the rhodium plating process for white gold jewelry, feel free to visit our “White Gold Jewelry” blog feature!
