Need Your Watch Glass Repaired? We Can Help!

Is your watch glass scratched, chipped, fractured, or broken? Whatever the case may be, we’ll take care of you and your treasured timepiece. No matter what the material, your watch glass can be repaired. No problem. Unlike many watchmakers who simply recommend replacing your watch glass any time there’s a problem, we’ll do whatever we can to remain conservative and true to the piece, even if it means polishing and buffing the existing watch glass, if that’s at all possible.

Watch Glass (Crystal) Repair Notes

Cracked Your Watch’s Glass (Crystal)? You May Need Watch Movement Servicing

In some cases, when a watch glass (crystal) is shattered, it is important to check on the watch movement since microscopic glass or sapphire particles can get into the movement causing damage. This can cause the need for watch movement servicing, and potentially replacement of movement parts.

Professional Parts Sourcing Team

Genuine parts, especially for rare vintage watches, can be a challenge, but our long history within the industry has given us access to great sources around the globe. Even if the parts are no longer available, our Certified Watchmakers can manufacture some parts if needed.

For more information about our movement services, please visit “Watch Movement Repair Services.”

Different Types of Watch Glasses (Crystals)

There are 3 main materials used for watch glasses (crystals): acrylic, mineral glass, and sapphire/synthetic sapphire.

Acrylic

Acrylic Crystals are:

  • The most affordable and the softest material used for watch crystals
  • Shatter resistant, but they do scratch easily or even crack with a hard impact
  • Usually able to be buffed out for shallow scratches since it is a softer material
  • Can be molded into different and unique shapes unlike other crystal materials

Mineral Glass

Mineral Glass Crystals are:

  • Harder than acrylic crystals
  • Not able to scratch quite as easily, but can shatter with a hard impact
  • The most commonly used material for watch crystals today
  • The most popular crystal choice by manufacturers

Synthetic Sapphire

Synthetic Sapphire Crystals are:

  • The hardest material used for watch crystals and often labeled as scratch resistant
  • The most expensive
  • Is lab grown, but has the same chemical composition as natural sapphire
    • Sapphire is the second hardest element, with diamond being the hardest.
    • Synthetic Sapphire crystals can chip or even shatter with a hard impact. Many luxury watch manufacturers use sapphire crystals.
