Don’t Get Hung Out to Dry this Wedding and Anniversary Season

Whether you’re attending a close friend’s wedding or it’s your own special day (congratulations!), looking your best is essential. With weddings happening throughout spring, summer, and early autumn, it’s important to have everything in order. Here are some expert tips on getting your jewelry and watches ready for the big day.

Are you getting married, or perhaps a best man or bridesmaid? No matter your role, your accessories need to shine. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and consider giving your favorite earrings or timepiece a touch-up or refurbishment.

Here are some different jewelry and watch pieces you might wear to a wedding, along with the maintenance they may require:

  • Earrings: Whether you prefer classic diamond studs, elegant pearl drops, or vintage chandelier earrings, make sure they’re in top condition. Regular maintenance includes cleaning to restore their sparkle, checking for secure backings, and possibly converting to screw posts for added security.
  • Necklaces: From delicate chains with pendants to statement pieces with gemstones, necklaces can elevate any outfit. Ensure the clasps are functioning correctly and the chain links are secure. Professional cleaning can remove tarnish and restore shine, especially for silver or gold pieces.
  • Bracelets: Charm bracelets, bangles, or tennis bracelets are popular choices. Inspect for any loose charms or links and ensure the clasps are sturdy. Polishing can remove any scratches and keep them looking new.

  • Rings: Apart from wedding bands, you might wear other rings to complement your look. Check for loose stones and consider resizing if they don’t fit perfectly. Regular polishing and rhodium plating for white gold rings can enhance their appearance.
  • Watches: A classic timepiece adds sophistication to any outfit. Regular maintenance includes battery replacement, cleaning, and checking the integrity of the watch crystal. Leather straps might need conditioning, while metal bracelets can benefit from a thorough polish.
  • Brooches and Pins: These can add a touch of vintage charm to your attire. Ensure the pin mechanism is secure and the brooch is clean and free from tarnish.

Regular maintenance and repairs can ensure your accessories are in perfect condition for the big day. Often, specialized services can handle intricate repairs and restorations that local jewelers might not be equipped for, and they can often do it faster.

Prepping the Most Important Wedding Pieces

Wedding bands are the centerpiece of any wedding ceremony, symbolizing eternal love and commitment. It’s crucial to ensure these important pieces are in perfect condition for your special day. Here are some key steps to consider:

  • Cleaning and Polishing: Regular cleaning and polishing can restore the shine and brilliance of your wedding bands, making them look brand new for the ceremony.
  • Setting Stones: If your wedding band has any stones, ensure they are securely set. Loose stones can be tightened, and missing ones can be replaced.
  • Ring Sizing (and Resizing): Make sure your wedding band fits perfectly. Professional resizing services can adjust the ring to ensure comfort and security.
  • Rebuilding and Replacing Prongs: Prongs that hold stones can wear down over time. Rebuilding or replacing prongs ensures that the stones remain securely in place.
  • Rhodium Coatings: For white gold rings, a rhodium coating can enhance the ring’s appearance and provide a protective layer.
  • General Maintenance: Regular inspections and maintenance can catch any potential issues early, ensuring that your wedding band remains in pristine condition.
